FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT ARE THE COMMON EVENTS AND WHEN ARE THEY HELD?

We hold events every Tuesday during the semester, usually from 5:30 – 7:30pm, followed by dinner at one of our sponsors. Our normal structure is weekly anime screenings where we watch 4 episodes of our chosen show, broken up with monthly games nights, manga nights, and occasional movie screenings. We watch 2 shows, 1 movie, and hold roughly 3 game/manga nights a semester. More details are available on our Facebook, Discord, and Instagram.

DO I HAVE TO BE A MEMBER TO PARTICIPATE?

You don't have to be a member to participate in most SMACK events, but it is highly encouraged to support the club. Events that do require being a member are the End of Semester Dinner (EoS) and the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Additionally, you won't be able to access the sponsorship benefits without a membership.

HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?

All information on becoming a club member is found under the Become a Member section of the website.

DOES SMACK HOLD ANY BIGGER EVENTS DURING THE YEAR?

Yes we do, and they’re a really good way to meet other members and just have some fun. Each semester we hold a Get To Know You Party in the first week to welcome all the newbies and do games like anime music quiz. Sponsor Tour happens a few weeks later, where we take everyone around to all our sponsors across Brisbane to get those sweet discounts. After exam blocks we have our end of semester dinner, and we have events on weekends and during the holidays too! A beach trip in the summer, camp in the winter, convention pilgrimages, and other weekend events like gunpla workshops. We also have a yearly maid cafe around the start of Semester 2, and a takoyaki stall at some point in the year. Find out more

HOW ARE SCREENED SHOWS PICKED?

At the start of each semester our members put in show recommendations. The executives assemble a shortlist, which members vote on at our Get To Know You Party. The top 4 shows have their first episode screened at our Battle Of The Pilots, and we have a final vote to decide which one we continue with, which is the first anime of the semester. Once we’ve watched that anime, each executive picks one and the members vote on that, the winner of which is the second anime of the semester. All movies are chosen by the exec team with no vote.

WHO IS THE ORANGE HAIRED PERSON?

Only the cutest mascot ever?! Sumako Yuukyuu runs this club - she writes announcements, does all the event planning, has the best takes, and is loved by all. In addition to Sumako, the club has another, equally cute, plushy mascot that goes by the name of Uqqi-kun. Uqqi and Sumako can be found under Meet the Team and the Gallery.
